A friend alerted me to the whereabouts of this nest. I had some good lighting today, but had to shoot through a lot of foreground branches. The wind kept moving the branches in front of the bird's head and it was difficult to get a few shots that were useable. The nest was at the top of a white pine, but because it is in a deep ravine, it appears at eye level from a nearby road. The image has been cropped considerably despite shooting at 400mm.
Awesome stuff! I think this is the same nest that is up by my parents house. I seen them on the firstly day of trout. All I had was my cell phone so I wasn't able to get any pictures. I'm amazed where they nested. Hope they stay in the area for awhile.
