Trout Cabin

Here are a few pics from the northern opening weekend of trout season along Whitedeer Creek.

Waiting for 8am and snapping pics of the creek:

Potatoes cooking for breakfast: (They weren't able to get the truck up to the cabin due to ice, we went back for breakfast pretty early, like 8:07)

After a lot of hiking, Tagout and I were able to put a few on the grill:

So since we had no trout nearby and we had a few extra eggs and soda and an air rifle and a guy who likes experimenting with his camera, we decided to have some fun:

Re: Trout Cabin

You weren't the only ones, I caught 3 natives on white deer, the other 20 guys zero! Above or below the fly stretch? Your source of water looks familiar, I'm gonna say oak grove camp?

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......

Re: Trout Cabin

Just below Oak Grove, near the wires that cross the stream. Tagout and I went downstream and fished back to the cabin in the afternoon and I managed a dozen and he got around three. Still a great time!

Re: Trout Cabin

Ok, I'm just curious, I fish and hunt the area, belong to buckhorn camp just across 80 on Zimmerman rd, off white deer pike. I got my natives above oak grove. A lot of camps are empty anymore, although a few that we never see up for years have a few in, like that cabin down from oak grove before the bridge that sets back off road. If that's your camp, check your woodpile, I left a donation in a Baggie, been like 3-4 years we got 2 buck on a drive right off point behind cabin, we drove Clark trail to that cabin, well the hollow anyway!

Re: Trout Cabin

Awesome pictures. I read your other post, the fishing seemed so-so but it looks like you had another year full of memories.

Re: Trout Cabin

Whoever was shooting those eggs was drilling 'em!

Always a good time! And the lack of fish above Running Gap Rd. meant a heck of a lot less traffic! Just made the surroundings that much more peaceful. I'd do that every weekend if I could!

Re: Trout Cabin

You would be surprised at how many fish it during the week! I have 2 or 3 days off during week, every hole near road from pike road to Coopermill bridge has someone in it until June. Went below mile run today in rain, a little color, just right, they were hammering redfins! Caught some holdovers, fished with 4 for several hours before I finally needed the fire at camp to dry out!
