I usually see folks say to cut it open, and see if it has a hollow center.

No leaves on the ones where I'm at, but I'm a bit farther north and don't expect that to happen for about two more weeks. On the other hand, when I look out the window at couple that are near by the wood itself looks to be the same.

There is an app called "plant snap". You can get it for your phone. The app allows you to take pictures of a plants leaves or flowers and it will identify the plant for you. You are allowed ten pictures a day at the free level. It is pretty good.

Hunting: 10% skill and 90% location.

One horn I tried taken a photo of your photo to identify your tree on leafSnap App to no avail. Maybe a photo of the real thing may work to identify it on that App.
