Landowners Assistance Program

Anyone have any experience dealing with the PGC’s Private Landowner Assistance Program? Good, bad, or indifferent I’d be grateful for your input. I’d be dealing with the SE region in 4C. Thanks.

I used them in the NorthCentral region for my property there. I called the office and set up an appointment to have the regional habitat specialist(blanking on name right now) meet me at property. He had maps with him of the property dating back to the 50's. We walked the property and he gave me suggestions on improvements I could do as well as helped me identify trees in my woods. I never did write up a management plan and try to get funding for improvements though. I have just been doing them as time and money permits.
They are a good resource and it is free. I was glad to meet with them.

Good luck,

Rob

Thanks for the reply Rob I appreciate it. I only recently learned the State even had this program. I hired a professional forester 2 years ago to work with me on timbering my property. Very glad I did. We did a select cut, took out about 500 trees, and did it in such a way that some areas were clear cut, others went untouched, the rest was somewhere in between. But now I’m left with “what’s next” and this program seems like a great place to start. I’ll definitely be giving them a call. Thanks again.

If anyone else has experience with the program I’d be glad to from you.

I had them at my property about 10 years ago. My experience reflects delphic93's experience.
I was happy with the time they spent with me as we walked my property. Answered lots of questions I had, and listened to my objectives.
About a month or so after the visit, I received a well prepared management plan in the mail. Highly recommended...
