Planting evergreens with black plastic?

I have used black plastic landscape weed fabric with hardwood seedlings.

This weekend I'll finally get to plant some bare root white spruce seedlings.

Would black plastic weed barrier work with spruce trees?

In the past I would just let the weeds grow up around the trees to keep moisture in the ground but that either killed the trees or slowed their growth by shading them.

I would not use black plastic unless your soil is sandy or does not retain moisture well.

Spruce dont have good anaerobic toleranc. AKA don't like wet feet.

I've had great luck with 4x4 scrap pieces of carpet or you could try lumite from greenhouse mega store (cheapest).
