Been hunting since late September/October.
Have a few skinned and frozen at the moment. Plan to have 1 or 2 tanned. Carcasses get buried.
223 is an excellent coyote round.
Fur starting to get nice, not prime yet. I hunt them because I love to, save the fur to not be wasteful.
..we hunt ALL YEAR Round..the only time we dont hunt is when the weather gets into the humid 80s/90s with high humidity at night..because the mosquitoes really "bite". The landowners want them dead...and we get pretty much all access passes...some want us to stop during archery and rifle..and then get back at it after..
usually after December their fur gets rough getting closer to mating season..look for someone to buy them if you dont have the resources to skin and prep..
Ahh NY...Thermal and NV permitted....lucky dog you LOL
Best time to shoot your first Coyote (or rack up big kill numbers) is September/October, when the pups are young and dumb so to speak. Fur will be soft & shiny, but under fur and guard hairs wont be completely developed.
Ok I guess my best bet would be to pick a spot and just start calling with the electric caller ? I am new to coyote hunting. Hunting public
I assume you’re hunting daylight. You haven’t mentioned lights.
I prefer night hunting.
There is so much information available to you if you’re willing to take some time and dig through older posts on here, and also if you’re on Facebook. When I started, I did a lot of internet searching and video watching. If you’re willing to put in the effort to learn, listen to and consider what successful hunters tell you and ask clear questions, you’ll be successful quicker. If you plan to just go out and start calling, be patient it’ll likely be a long journey.
Right now you probably have a mental idea of what you will do and how a hunt will go. Take all those thoughts and presumptions and throw them out. Clear your thoughts and become a sponge to the details of what “successful” coyote hunters say. 100 guys try coyote hunting, most of those will tell you what you need to do, probably only 10 or so have any success. The rest “know how” to be successful, but are clueless to “why” they themselves are not. In the end you’re success will depend mostly with your own ability to use your own head.
