Well my daughter Katie (10 years old) logged many hours beside me this year. In archery she spent many mornings in stand then I would race her to school. She had a few chances, but just never quite worked out.
Well this morning we were in stand again at 6:15am. Waiting for the new day. Katie and I somehow forgot our morning prayer that we normally do. Yesterday she asked my dad (my dad passed away last October) to push us a buck and well I think he did, but we could not get on the little spike. At about 7 this morning Katie said lets say our morning prayer. Again she looked at me and said lets ask pappy again and this time we will be ready.
Well 7:20 I hear leaves crunching and sure enough here come two deer. The second one is a buck and it stops with most of its shoulder blocked by a tree. The other deer sees something and starts to run. Katie says dad I can not shoot him behind the shoulder (instilled in her during archery season). I told her can you make a good shot in the neck. she said are you sure? I said yes and immediately BOOM!! ~75 yards and the deer does a backflip and is down. As we came up to the deer, its antlers were buried in the soft ground and I said Katie you shot a Doe!! (Messing with her.) She said no way dad I saw a wide rack!! I had her a little nervous at first LOL. What a wonderful morning she was so excited and I had to hold her for a while till we got down out of the stand because she was shaking with excitement so bad.
What a season and time well spent. The stories we shared on stand together and most important things is the memories that we made.
PS. She made me get her HPA hat she won last year in the buck pool last year thanks RB.
That buck looks like he was quite the fighter ! Congrats to Katie ! My son Ty and myself often ask the Good Lord for some Devine Intervention , and help in guiding a few in our direction ! He has provided some unforgettable memories !
