As a 16 year old junior in high school it is hard for me to enjoy my passion for the outdoors. This past September my dad and I went to Colorado as I had a unit 61 cow elk tag and 62 mule deer tags. My dad drove the 23 hours from PA and had camp set for when I got out there. I flew into Montrose on Friday, the day before the hunt. Being my second hunting trip to Colorado I knew what to expect. The first day of the hunt we had big bulls within 10 yards and a few cows but no shots. The Monday evening after all the rain had past we got out and saw a bull chase a cow with no shot, but as we were walking back to our four wheeler about 105 yards stood a nice cow. Took a minute for her to turn and give me the perfect shot but my inline did the job and she ran about 70 yards and died. I was happy with my first elk. Then it was time to try and find a big Mule deer and on the last evening of the hunt I missed a 170 class buck about 160 yards. All in all it was the best hunt of my life and great to to away from school for 10 days.

Nothing beats being 20 feet up in a tree durning the fall! On October 21st I had a great night in the stand seeing bucks chasing doe's all around me and about 6:25 I saw a nice buck about 90 yards so I hit the grunt call he turned and starts walking straight at me so I grabbed my bow and got ready. 5 minutes later he made a scrape about 20 yards in front of me then turns and walks down the trail 15 yards stop and I put a perfect shot on him he ran 80 yards and fell over.
