2014 not big but different

My Story: I have a friend who allows me to hunt on his property. I have had a tree stand pretty much in the same place for maybe 12 or 13 years. I like to get into my stand before light taking my time , being as quiet as possible while going to it. On the first Thursday of the season I was running late so I decided to climb up in a double stand well before my stand because daylight was coming quick. At first light another hunter walked right under the stand and didn't even see me. As I watched him walk out of sight, I heard some noise on the hill behind me to the right. I caught a glance of two deer in the thick stuff. As fast as I saw them they were gone. It wasn't too long before I heard a noise to the right of where I saw the two deer. I saw one lone deer walking down through the thick stuff. It turned out to be a doe, walking down a trail about 50 yards out from me to a path/road and then walking away from me. About 45 minutes later on the same trail I see another lone deer walking through the thick stuff. It seemed like it took forever for it to make its way to a point to where I could tell it was a buck, and even longer for me to tell that it was a legal buck. The head was down almost all the time, which makes me think he was following the doe. On my first shot he didn't move, he just raise his head and scanned the area. He continued to walk down the trail and when he reached the path, my second shot knocked him off feet and dead on the spot. I didn't know that the rack was like it is until I reached him. It was indeed different. The first shot hit him high above the shoulder, the second in the heart.

A few more years would've made this deer a monster

I guess your a meat Hunter and if it's brown it's down type of sportsman Hunter8319? Nice, that's your prerogative I suppose. I'll bet you got a ton of spike and Y-bucks in your day.

I was just commenting it appears to be a young deer with a ton of potential but still a trophy.

Re: 2014 not big but different

Every deer is a trophy to some people it is their own perogative on what to determine makes a trophy. 10-15 years ago where i hunt on state forest that had lots of pressure that would be a monster. Now not so much with lack of pressure and antler restrictions. We all cant emulate these hunting shows on t.v.

Congatulations on your harvest

Anybody can shoot deer on the farm ground....You earn it in the mountains.......
