Just got home from the PA Taxidermy show Sunday. It was a great show as always with a lot of mounts. I had a lot of fun. Here are pics of my personal pieces this year that I entered.
Doe head in Professional division. I killed her in 2011 with my 20 gauge slug gun in WMU 2B. my first ever slug gun kill and it dropped her where she stood. It was a very memorable hunt and a big doe that gave us a lot of venison. this is a special deer to me so I thought it was fitting to do as a competition mount.
My flat art piece in the Master division. It measures 16" x 20" and is entirely pencil drawn. I used a real photo as reference and used the grid method to draw from. This was my first flat art entry since 2010 so I was really happy to get back into drawing after such a long break. as a bonus it also won me the Wildlife Artist of the Year award, State Champion Wildlife Flat Art, and the Ned Smith memorial award.
Last but not least, my collective artist's piece with two goat kids. (they were stillborns from a farm) My friend, of Northern Harvest Taxidermy mounted the top goat and I did the one on the bottom. we used mouflan lamb forms from WASCO and altered them accordingly. then made a custom rock for the base. We were very honored to win the Perry Klein Memorial award for best collective artist piece.
