First Time Taxidermy Attempt

Here it is guys 3 weeks later! My first taxidermy project! It cost me $15.00 with the borax and block of foam! I think its pretty good for not having any formal training, book, or proper tools. What do you guys think? I am hoping to get another pheasant to give it another try!

Trapping goals:
1/5 Red fox
0/5 Gray fox
0/5 Coyote
8/20 Raccoon
0/15 Muskrat
2/0 Possum
0/0 Skunk

Re: First Time Taxidermy Attempt

Practice makes perfect. I think you could benefit from a book or video. Or find a pic in an old hunting magizine. It is leaning forward a bit to much should be more upright. Or since you are not that far away call me, I have 4 to do before Christmas. Come and watch how I do them. I am not perfect but I think I could give you some pointers.

It's not the size of the shop, it's the quality of the work!

Re: First Time Taxidermy Attempt

This guy was a mess from the start! This was suppose to be me and a buddies project but ended up being just me... My buddy is the who skinned it and didnt take his time and didnt let me try so long story short his tail and head was separated from the main body... Thats when he was turned over to me... Lol i know hes kinds low but i cant get him higher, where i put the pegs from the legs into the body are loose so they dont hold well...

Re: First Time Taxidermy Attempt

One word for you...."reference". First time taxidermist or 20 year veteran....it's a must to have good reference photos. Even pics online from a search can assist in proper placement of feathers, wings, stature, etc...
