Re: Rattle Snake tanning..

It doesn't matter what everybody else is charging. You said you just got done with it. So.....you have your time and your materials all figured out. Add your own wage to the shop rate and figure it out. Let us know what you come up with.

Re: Rattle Snake tanning..

I 100% respectfully disagree with the other advice you were given and feel you are being led into a "trap" to try and justify high prices.
Check all your local pricing, then compare your work to theirs and set your price. Being that this is your first, you obviously chose to expand your talents and this customer shouldn't suffer with a high price because it may have taken you a lot longer than it should have. No knock on you, but we all know the first time trying a new craft will take a LOT longer than later attempts. Why should this customer pay for you to learn?

Re: Rattle Snake tanning..

Well I am not a beginner at taxidermy or tanning..Just my first reptile and it was very easy to do..I have about 2 hrs wrapped up in it (it was already skinned when brought to me)I have 2 gallons of water, roughly 3 pounds of salt and roughly 3 oz. of snake tan, did'nt measure it out but a little went a long way...The snake skin measured out at 57-1/2" skinned and tanned..The snake is gone, I got paid and Uncle Sam will get his share...All is well..

The advice I was given I feel was good advice..I honestly do not know any taxidermists that charge to much, But I do know a few that charge to little...
