Shoulder Mount ?

My father shot his one and only buck back in 1988 minutes after I shot my first buck. Mine was a scrubby 7 pointer and his was a respectable 10 pointer even by today standards. He didn't get the deer mounted and last year when he was looking over my taxidermy collection I asked him why he didn't get it mounted. He said that he didn't feel right getting his deer mounted and not getting my deer mounted . . . bottom line money. Well long story short. Can I get his antlers mounted on another cape this fall, even if he does not have the tag anymore. Remember this was from 1988.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, just stupid people asking questions.

Re: Shoulder Mount ?

Yes you can. Most taxidermists have extra capes in their freezer so you wouldn't necessarily have to wait until next fall.

Re: Shoulder Mount ?

My taxi took my biggest set of antlers from a mount I lost in a fire and the tag is sitting in a dump somewhere. It was smoke damaged but no fire damage. He had extra capes and was able to find a perfect match.

Talk to your taxi. I will say that my rack had two very distinct features and I had taken blownup printed pics I got off photobucket to show spread and the tag is clearly visable in the pics

P.S. The monkey really freaks DennyF out

Re: Shoulder Mount ?

My real question is the lack of a tag being that the deer was taken in 1988. I have taken several bucks to the taxidermist (all fresh) and they needed the tag and numbers. Does anyone know what happens in a case like this?

It should'nt be much of a problem, the Game Commission should still have a record of his harvest report should any issues pop up. Just be sure your taxi has all the info that you can provide him with as far as I.D. goes.
