Re: skkinning question

Do you have a tail stripper?
If you carefully skin the first few inches clear of the base of the tail, place the stripper tightly around the tail just where yu stopped skinning, put your left hand on the rump of the animal, your right hand tightly on the stripper and pull hard. The bone/meat will pull out all at once and you can then split the rest of the underside of the "tube" where the bone pulled from.

If you have no stripper, use can substitute two metal rods-one on each side of the tail and grip tightly with the bone between your ring finger and middle finger and pull the same as with the stripper.-I did it this way for years-the stipper is easier.

Hope this helps.

BTW, every couple years I still break a tip off. It's really more damaging to my pride than the pelt.

Re: skkinning question

Stripper is the way to go and only cost a few bucks, but I have used a pair of pliers on many animals. Do just as HDT suggest then adjust pliers to be kind of tight close to handle. I then push the rump and hold on to the pliers tight and have not ripped one yet. Ok tomorrow if I catch something I will probably rip a tail off.

Re: skkinning question

Lay the tail flat on a hard surface like the floor and roll your hands back and forth on dhe tail , helps break up the membrane making it easier to pull
