How to soften Pelts

So i shot a few rabbits and i put some borax on the pelts to cure them well thats what i read online to do. Well they are stiffer then a rock. How do i soften them? Is there anyway to do it with home products or water? Hows the drier method work?

prob not gonna be able to soften with borax, because its not a method of tanning. just a preserve.

Re: How to soften Pelts

You'll have to go through the pickle and tanning process first, then oil, let sweat, then beam and stake the hide to soften.
