owls

Thought this might be the place to ask this ? Found a dead screech owl that hit my sliding glass doors , is it legal to have these protected critters mounted . Do you need a permit from DCNR or PGC. Just wondering .

Re: owls

Hawks, owls, eagles, and songbirds are federally protected.
It is against state and federal law to have them in your possession without a permit. I don't believe they give out permits for mounting owls, except to museums and schools that use them for educational purposes. Call the PGC and speak to your local WCO. You will probably have to turn the owl over to them. They will be able to tell you how the owl can best be used.

Re: owls

Best thing you can do is turn it over and it may be mounted for educational purposes.

Re: owls

I hit one spotting deer 2 years ago and called the WCO. It was a barred owl. Really good looking but they took it because it was'nt messed up. Go figure.
