I am going on an Alligator hunt would like to have a pair of boots or wallet made if successful; can anybody recommend a place to have these made? Also any suggestions on how it should be skinned. I am located in Perry County. Thanks for your help.
Been researching gator hunts for years and if it wasn't for so many bike trips this year I probably would have done it this past spring. My daughter lives in south central Fl., right in the heart of it. There are 2 very different ways to skin a gator one is "belly skinning" which is what you would do to have things made, basically you remove the back skin and discard it, saving the belly skin. The other method for mounting or full skin tanning you cut up the belly center and out the underside of the legs. Have you chosen a guide or are you diy public hunt with the draw?
Yes definitely let me know how it goes. And if you would please let me know who you are using, either here or pm. What gun, bow, spear, or knife you using? I am going to use my flintlock.
Not an endorsement as I never used them and never could at their prices, but every year at the SCI convention Hampton and Hampton offer an auction hunt for 1 gator including a belt, boots, and wallet from your gator by Meyer Custom Boots. It typically goes for around $4000-4500. I guess a 6-9' is about right for leather products. Both HH and Meyer are both expensive options. The Meyer boots run like 2k+. Your outfitter will probably have options.
