Help with first deer mount

Looking for some help here guys. I took my first deer to a local taxidermist. Highly recommended by friends. I visited the shop. Looked at the work and everything looks great. I took my buck from 2016 in and choose my form and paid my deposit. I got the call it was done and went into pick it up and noticed a 4 inch gash where a sharp blade cut the back of the fur on the neck and the chest looks like it was peppered with a shotgun. I not happy, so the taxi doesn't know what happened to the neck. But I was told the marks on the chest are scars. I'm not sure. I don't have pictures of the mount, I will get some tomorrow. When I return back to the shop to discuss how to move forward with the mount. I took this deer with my dad. We tracked it together. It's my first deer I ever took with him. Its very special to me. And honestly I'm sick over it.

I'd tell the taxidermist I wanted a new cape. While not the cape of the deer you shot, it would look better. While not ideal it would still have the portion of the deer that conveys the unique characteristics of that animal, the antlers. I would expect him to do this at no additional charge.

If it were me, I would demand the taxidermist buy a new cape and remount the deer or pay for another taxidermist to remount it. If he doesn't make it right go the the dept of Ag who issues the taxidermist licenses and report your problem. I hope you have photos of the deer before the taxidermist got his hands on the deer so you have proof the cape was not damaged when you gave it to him.

When you are up to your butt in alligators, it is hard to remember your intent was to drain the swamp. Stay focused!

Who took the cape off of the deer ? I mean who skinned it ?
Does this fellow do his own tanning or does he send the capes out for tanning ?
I would like to see a picture of what you are saying ?

Well. I stopped back into the taxi this am. I wanted to discuss the deer mount some more. I got some pictures. But first I have to say. This is my first mount , but not the first I have seen by far. My house growing up was filled with about 60 of them from north to south and many from Africa. Also in my excitement, I forgot some important info. Like my deer was taken opening day 2016. Warm weather, ticks and most importantly a thin coat which allow scars and other imperfections to show. That was a big factor with the chest and some combing fixed a bunch of the issues. We looked at deer taken later is the season and the coat was so much thicker. But the back of the neck was not something that was on the deer when it was dropped off.

I guess your implying my concerns about my deer are invalid? The first deer I ever got mounted, The first deer I ever took with my father. The first deer, we ever tracked together and gutted and celebrated over.

It's interestingthat you changed your message. Glad I was able to catch it before you had a chance to change it.

I caped the deer, and was very careful and inspected the deer and took photos. The taxi sends them out. Carolina some place. I don't remember the full name.

I didn't want to be to be offensive... I found the photo of the damage to be a little less than what I had pictured in my mind from your initial description. The picture shows a mark on the back of the neck. That wouldn't bother me too much, if everything else looked good, eyes, nose etc. But... everyone is different. I used to mount deer for people but got out of it because you just couldn't please everyone, and I didn't need that stress! Good luck on getting the mount fixed and congrats on the deer!

Man i want to voice an opinion but don't want to insult any one ?
Archery season = warm weather and how many folks know what that can do to a deer hide ?
