Your taxidermist should be able to show you some options, the skies the limit depending on how much you want to spend and whether you want wall pedestal or floor, search on this forum i think i have posted some wall pedstals and floor also.
Here's one I had done from the 2009 season. The pedestal was custom made by a local custom cabinetry shop from a picture out of Mckenzie's Taxidermy catalog. I had them make it 28" high instead of 36" like Mckenzie's. The top is removable too so the mount can be secured properly. Not to mention they made it for $200, instead of $500 like they are in the catalog.
I like the old fence post with barbed wire idea, but didn't feel it was appropiate for a big woods deer as they seem to be more suited for farm country deer, imho.
Iím a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
Yes, Really like the fence post idea! I looked at all the traditional pedastals and the look just doesn't do it for me - too "classy"... I like some type of knotty pine post or fence post. Guess I'll look into it. My taxi will do the deer as a pedastal but does not do custom bases. Guess I have some homework to do
