In addition to the tanning process, getting soft and pliable skins takes some elbow grease: Pizzari's Home Tanning Kits: Stretching & Breaking a Skin

If my pappy was still alive he would know ! He sure tan my hide a few times with a soft and pliable belt! And he sure put a lot elbow grease into it.

I used to buy my stuff through Van Dykes. But if you're looking for super soft tanned leather from a home tanning kit, I believe you'll be disappointed. I feel the secret to a soft tan is the fact that tanneries mechanically thin the leather, without that process, the leather will never be as soft as you would like it. Box it up and send it to Moyles, Z&L, Sleepy Creek etc.You won't be disappointed.
