Not sure if I should get this guy European Mt or Shoulder mounted? Thanks for the input.

And yes this deer is legal, the tag was being filled out.

Thanks

Personal choice. I get all of my bucks put on a plack, I'll never mount one regardless of the size. You'll be happy either way.

Nice buck...itís your wallet. Getting a skull cleaned is much cheaper than a shoulder mount. Ask yourself a few questions...is this my best buck to date? Do I reasonably expect to get a better buck? Do I have a place for a shoulder mount? Was there a special memory about this deer hunting experience that sets it apart from others? Your age? I mention age...Iím 60 years old. Iíll get to look at this mount for maybe 20 years. A few more if Iím lucky. If I was 20, I might have 60+ years to admire my trophy.

I think it depends on what you already have mounted and the size of this buck in comparison...either way he'll make a great mount...congrats!

My "rules" for shoulder mounts are that he would have to be taken with a bow or flintlock, and be similar or better than my best (or have some cool, unique features). Everything else goes in the pot for a euro mount.

The buck in question is certainly a very nice buck, and if you don't have a better one on the wall, I'd get a shoulder mount. That said, those dark horns would contrast nicely with a bleached skull. I don't think you'll go wrong either way.

You must have posted here before to know how much baloney you would get because it doesn't have the tag yet .
Money talks ! I mean what you have to spend on it! The last 10 years we just do the skull mounts and they are conversation pieces in their own rights !
PS. If you have to pay some one to do it it is a Euro Mount, but if you do it yourself it is a skull mount ?
OPPS ! Forgot to tell you that's a nice Buck kid !

This was my first post on HPA, but I had a feeling that since the tag wasn't included in the pic, I might get a post or two on that. Moving on, I do my own Euro mts ( the full skull, except the lower jaw), the only thing that is keeping me from the Euro is that I lose all the facial characteristics and color. To answer some other questions this is my first buck that is worthy of a shoulder mt, and I am on the younger side so I'll be admiring him for awhile.

Thanks to all who posted (and will post)

Then shoulder it is...one thing I suggest is getting the ears up or back a bit...my first mount has the ears out...he looks like Yoda.
