now what

Ok need some advice. Took my Weasel in to get it mounted and got a call a few days ago he said the fur was slipping and he couldn't mount it.He would refund money and I could pick up hide.And it would be ok too hang on wall or whatever.
ok advice part, it is as stiff as a board all curled up and stuff is there anything I can do to soften it up and actually turn hide soft without losing the fur? He used a dry presevative of somesort he said it wasn't borax.He told me to soak it in salt water to soften it up but it would go hard again is there anyway to stop it from getting hard or am I out of luck? Thanks for any info

Re: now what

being a dry preserve i think that you got what you got. anything you try will slip more fur.i would try to rehydrate it and then dry it with something holding is flat so that you could at least hang it on the wall.

He never said it would be easy;
He only said it would be worth it!

Re: now what

Someone told me you can oil it with some type of oil to soften them up and then work it to make it soft any truth to that.

yes you could use neets foot oil or ever a tanners oil if it were tanned and not slipping
