My Harrisburg/7 springs competition mounts........

This is my first year in the "professional" division, at the Harrisburg show I entered a bobcat/pheasant combo, and a lesser scaup. The pheasant is the first bird I have ever mounted, and the lesser scaup was my second bird. The bobcat was my first attempt at cats. I wasn't going to take anything to our State competition at 7 springs, as my main objective was taking the whitetail that my 13 year old mounted for the Jr. Amateur division. I was so proud of him!!!! I ended up taking my first customer mount (one of my best friends), just to see how I would do in the professional whitetail division.....I was quite happy with my yellow, as the information I received from the judge was priceless. The judge for small mammals at Harrisburg was "wife-of-Mike-O"'s husband Mike, and I was very thankful for the critique he gave me on my bobcat,I'm sure my next one will be better... guys like these are what make the PTA the awesome organization it is. ......sorry for the long post....

Oh yeah...I almost forgot, my personal best so far was getting a "second place" people's choice award at Harrisburg for my bobcat/pheasant

Re: My Harrisburg/7 springs competition mounts........

I am glad you got the competition "bug". It is fun to keep trying to improve every year! Alot of people think competing is just to get ribbons, but it is so much more than that. It gives you a chance to have a lot of fun with your friends, keeps you reaching for a higher goal, and a chance to prove to yourself that you did a good job or gained skills after the last time you competed! Keep bringing them! (you and your son).

Re: My Harrisburg/7 springs competition mounts........

congrats...i was once told that in order to be successful at taxidermy you should be able to take any customer mount off the wall, enter it in a competition and take at least a 3rd.

you can always specialize from there. it looks like you got three 3rd place awards...thats not easy to do your first time in the pro division.

you have talent,, stay with it, keep your son involved, his mount looks awesome.
