Deer skulls

Shot a decent buck and had the whole head in the barn for a year. Now I'd like to clean it up and maybe hydro coat. Any suggestions to clean it up would be appreciated.

Re: Deer skulls

If you are going to hydrocoat it. I would just boil it to remove any hair or meat. If it yellows a bit from the boil it will be covered up by the dip process

Re: Deer skulls

All the grease has to be removed from skull before hydrodipping if not the grease will blead through the dip. The yellowing is grease and most things don't stick well to grease. Just a heads up I do lots of hydrodipping

Re: Deer skulls

Use dawn dish detergent and water for degreasing. I bought an aquarium heater that I use while degreasing. Works pretty good it you give it time. when water gets cloudy take skull out and add new water and soap.
