Looking for some help and suggestions.

When my step father-in-law died last year, it took a while to go through the estate. When his daughter and my wife and I were going through the garage, there were about 5 skull plates with the attached antlers on them nailed to the rafters. No one else wanted them, so I took them. One still had old fur still on it.

I'm looking for some suggestions as to what can I make with them or how could I display them. I think it would be a nice tribute to a good man. My plan it to have them placed at the camp we just remodeled.

Also- how do I get the old hair and skin off the one. It's pretty old.

Wishing I was at camp!

When removing old skin/fur, I just used a screwdriver to loosen the stuff and pull it off. Here's and interesting project:

Re: Looking for some help and suggestions.

When I did taxidermy I would mix up a big bowl of strong salt water, stick the skull plate in it so it is imerged over the hair on the skull plate. Let soak for a couple days and use a flathead screwdriver and get under the hair and work it loose. The salt water will absorb into the flesh better than plain water. Hope this helps, good luck..
