Fox with mange

Well tonight I finally had a shot at a fox and harvested it with my bow.. After further review the fox has mange. No hair back leg and tail. The problem I have with this is this is the first fox that I ever shot and I wanted to get it mounted what do I do know. Can I buy a pelt or do I just wait and hope that i do this again one day in my life time. How do you prepare a fox for a taxidermist.

Re: Fox with mange

You CAN buy a pelt, but then, is it really your fox? I would recommend seeing if you could do something with the tail (if that is not mangy) and perhaps get the skull cleaned and bleached as a souvenir of this one? If you want to prepare the whole fox for the taxidermist, put it in 2 garb age bags, squeeze the air out, and put in freezer whole, do not gut it..

How does the head look? They can do head or shoulder mounts.

Re: Fox with mange

Head looks ok. I'm thinking about doing one of those camo dipped skulls anyone have a person that does that.
With another pelt it wont be my fox I waited this long I can keep waiting. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Fox with mange

Shoulder mount would work if the shoulders to the nose are clear of any mange. You could get a pedestal mount if you want something different.

Re: Fox with mange

Just do a head mount - that is what I did with my first fox, had mange really bad except for it's head.
