How to preserve my deer hide?

I killed my first deer and I just want to keep it for a while is there any way i can quickly preserve it so i can keep it hung up in the garage or something. (I already fleshed and salted it and should I wash it a couple times with borax or something)

Re: How to preserve my deer hide?

If you wanted a quick, simple one step way to "preserve" it, you could have fleshed off all the fat and membrane and just applied borax to it. This is not a tan and will dry hard and stiff with no way to break it or make it soft, but if you are just looking to keep it hung in your garage, it will work for that purpose. If you want an actual tan you will have to pick up a tanning kit from a taxidermy supply company.
