Best to place them on a food source, bait pile, or scrape. I have one and the trigger speed is pretty slow. If your gonna put it on a trail make sure the deer will be coming straight at the cam so that it stays in the trigger zone longer. They take decent pics, i'm happy with mine never owned any other type so I can't compare them. Have fun with it!!
