King of the Mountain Hunting Clothes

Anyone own King of the Mountain brand hunting clothes? I read a positive review somewhere and looked at their website but was amazed by their prices (like $350 for a shirt or $900 for a parka). Is the clothing worth the price? Is it that much warmer than other gear?

Re: King of the Mountain Hunting Clothes

It all depends on what you want. If you want custom made, high quality wool clothing that is warm, tough and long lasting and quiet KOM is awesome. I have been using it since 1984. I have owned most all of there clothing. I never get cold and never regret paying for the highest quality. There are guys that like savage rifles and then there are guys that like ultra light arms rifles. To each their own. I like the best I can afford and I think most are like that, so if carhart or woolrich is the best you can afford it will work also. But KOM is fantastic stuff. Gary

Worth is relative to the individual.

It's good stuff. But there are others.

If you can afford KOM and are willing to pay top dollar then it may be worth it to you.

Me I can stay warm for less.

Another day in paradise. God hunts on Sundays.

Re: King of the Mountain Hunting Clothes

I have decent gear. Mostly Cabelas. I get cold when I am stand hunting in temps below 30 or 35 degrees no matter how many layers I use. I can tough it out but I get pretty uncomfortable after 3 or 4 hours unless I get up and walk. Would KOM make a difference or are some people going to get cold no matter what?

Re: King of the Mountain Hunting Clothes

Physiologically staying warm has to do with many things; physical condition, health, temps, wind, how dry or wet you are, food intake and more things than I can think of today. Everyone can tolerate differing amounts of cold differently. Your clothing is a big part of the equation, but still depends on many variables. A wind barrier is important also as well as insulation and the ability to vent excess heat. KOM is really good but a person can get cold if they are ill for example.

Also I wish I were the president of KOM, it seems like it would be a good gig but I'm just an old loyal customer. King Cavalier is the president of KOM and grew the company from the kitchen table in Jackson Hole WY to a real company in CO. Great guy, smart and knows hnting and how to beat the cold. Call him, he will talk with you. Also you can pick up great deals on KOM clothing on ebay. Hope this helps!! Have a great day!! Gary

Re: King of the Mountain Hunting Clothes

I own many types of wool hunting clothing. I always wear my King of the Mountain first. It is without a doubt the finest hunting clothing made. I bought mine 10 years ago and I'm sure it will last for at least 20 more. I look at it as an investment. It costs a few dollars a year.
