I had a pair of boots that were were well worn and as comfortable as an old friend. Problem was, they smelled bad. Powerfully bad. Smelled like I stepped into something and it got inside and grew. I remember hunting once and when I backtracked all the trees were dead. Here is a surefire way to eliminate stinky boots.

First, wait until there is a sunny day and take the boots outside. Place them on a concrete driveway or on a large stone in a yard. Next, take out the laces. You can use them as lanyard to hold your duck calls. Now squirt them with lighter fluid inside and out. Finally, light an Ohio Blue Tip match and throw it on the boots. That will kill the stink without making the local dump a toxic waste site.

Deer love stinky boots. If I doze off on a ground stand, there are usually several deer in there sniffin' at my boots when I wake up.

Years ago I started laying my boots on their side when I take them off. Seems to let the sweat moisture "drain" out a lot better, than leaving them upright over night.

My huntin' bud made fun of that, then one night I turned the light on in the bunk room where his stuff was and there were his Herman Survivors on their side. Asked him what was up, he came in, turned off the light, told me to get outta there.
