Re: Lansky knife sharpening system
Fleroo, i've been trying to stay out of this mess, but i have to say this. I have a sick obsession with cutlery. I have had a dozen or so different knife sharpening systems and after chatting with a couple guys that make custom knives for a living, I too am doing the sandpaper thing.
all you need is a couple sheets of wet/dry. I use a 4-600 grit to start with, and finish with 800. i just lay the sheet flat on a formica countertop and use it just like a whet stone. i wet the paper a little and get to work. I've NEVER had knives come out with such a polished, razor sharp edge. and cost? please-less than 1/10th the cost of a low end sharpener, and let's just say that for the price of a Lansky (and I own one) you could literally have a lifetime supply of wet/dry paper. i keep a small patch of 800 grit at work to polish up my EDC (Gerber Applegate tactical folder).
