Thermacell?

I know this topic comes up every season but I was looking to get some input about Thermacells. I was going to stop at Gander Mt tomorrow and was considering picking one up for turkey season. Normally I just use bug spray.

Re: Thermacell?

beagler, I bought one a couple years ago and love it. It will not do anything for ticks though. Mosquitos and black flies it works great. It doesn't seem to stop gnats either, but I never really have much trouble with them anyway. I was in Vermont at a field trial and everyone was wearing them, the mosquitos and black flies were horrible unless you were standing next to a guy who had a thermacell on. That's all it took for me to buy one.

Re: Thermacell?

I bought one to hunt in the swamps of South Carolina where the Mosquitos and horseflies are the size of ducks. I can honestly say it was the best $20 I've spent on hunting gear in a while. While the unit was on, not a single bug bothered me. As soon as I shut it off the bugs were unbearable. Buy one and you won't regret it.

Re: Thermacell?

John-PA- your post answered the question that I had. Apparently the Thermacell does repel black flies. They are much more of a problem up in the Adirondacks and Tug Hill areas of NY, where I hunt most of the time.

I love mine! If its a little breezy, place it upwind so it covers you more.

Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.

Re: Thermacell?

Worth every penny. Just used mine last week in South Carolina when we were hog hunting. Never saw a mosquito until the pads ran out. During one sit, I opened the door of an elevated box blind and there was a swarm already in the box. I fired mine up, opened the door and threw it in like a flash gernade. Waited a few minutes before I went in and they were all gone.
