Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

I need to buy a new pair of cold weather hunting boots that are at least 800 grams of insulation and something that will do well out west in rocky terrain. I will be hunting the third rifle season so snow is likely. The boots should be purchased now so I can wear them a little to break them in before next fall.I am leaning toward Danner's Predator. Anybody care to comment on Danner products?

Re: Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

Danner boots are very good as long as you get the made in USA models like the Elk hunter. They will last you a long, long time if you take care of them and are really worth the few extra shekels you have to spend. The soles are sewn onto the upper. Watch Cabelas since they carry them and sometime put them on sale.

The Pronghorn and other similar models are made in China and use a glue process to mate the sole to the upper. I would not recommend them for rugged terrain usage.

Sized a little small. Try them on before you buy, if possible.

Re: Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

bought elk hunters 600gr and they are awesome! bought pronghorns and wish I would have got 2 pair. one to krap on and one to cover it up with. the pronghorn instep just isnt for my feet.

It may be a poor choice of words but I am smart enough to understand what you meant.

Get Lowa's. Best on the market but pricey. Good idea breaking them in. Danner I believe are made in USA so they have that going for them

Re: Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

Most of Danners are now imported. Check the boot itself first, don't read what they say in catalogs. The Canadian boot is a great boot. You can find them for a lot less, look on line.

Keep Americans working!
Buy made in USA!!!!

Re: Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

Bought some Danner Pronghorns last year, and Im happy so far. Ive put probably around 70 miles on them so far, and no leaks and they look like new. They break in easy (around 15 miles) for me. No problems yet.

Re: Danner Boots? Yea or Nay?

I read this thread and remembered I saw my Danner Boot box down in the basement the other day. I just went down and looked inside for the receipt. I bought the "Winter Lights" (200 gram insulation) back on 9/28/1990.

The boots are sitting on the rack behind me as I type this.
It's an all-leather boot and looks to be still in fair shape....albeit, there is not much milage left on the sole but I still use them.

PS: They were 139.99 back then.
