cold weather gear

I'm starting a new job that will be outdoors for 12 hours a day year round. I'm basically torn between Under armour or Red Rams new merino wool base layer. I will also need a tough wind and waterproof outer garment. I have some fleece for middle layer clothing. Last week in Northern Pa. we had -20 without wind chill. Whats a good knee high insulated rubber boot and hat as well?

Thanks!

Who is John Galt?

Nothing like a good bird dog and a fine shotgun.

Re: cold weather gear

I too work outside 10+ hour days all year long............I mostly wear under armor, and then military surplus polypropolene top in the winter time(like the first one here Top ) .........I rarely wear a windproof outer layer(usually just a heavy hoodie), but I bought this rain coat last year, and I am nothing but impressed with it, it is rugged, and tough as nails.........I wouldnt wear any other raincoat from now on........and I have been in an all day downpour with it on and stayed dry...... Coat

As far as the knee high boots, all I wear are Muck Woody Max, I wear them for work a fair bit in wet weather, and extreme cold.........with a good sock my feet will stay warm and dry in them all day

Also FWIW if you want tough as nails work clothes check out Arborwear, I wear their sweatshirts, and their tree climbing pants and they are tough, and well worth every penny.....
