Leupold scope recommendations

I've decided to get a new Leupold scope on my Win. 88 .308 next year. What model of Leupold scope would you recommend? Price range - around $300. Please let me what you think. I'm replacing a Redfield Tracker 3x9. Thanks!

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

I dont think you can go wrong with any of the Leupold models. I have VX-1's, VX-2's, and VX-3's and I can not see any difference in the optical clearness in any of them.

If that was my gun I would be going with a 2-7 or 3-9 in the Ultralight series. I dont think a model with 30mm tube or large adjustable objective would look "right" on a classic/classy rifle like that.

Good luck, Tony

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

I place Leupold 3x9 Compacts on most of my Model 88's...A scope with a 40MM objective throws these rifles horribly off-balance.

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

I think the Ultralight series is basically the Compact series renamed.

Good luck, Tony

Never needed anything over 4x33 in the woods

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

The last 2 Leupold scopes I purchased for hunting rifles were the "Rifleman" series. I think these are great scopes with a lifetime guarantee and with all the clarity of any other scope I've looked through.

My last Rifleman was a 3-9X with the BDC Reticle and it's worth every penny plus.

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

Don't forget about Leupold's Redfields, they're American made and are amazing. I just picked up a 2-7 for a little over $100 and its clear and [censored] up the light. I put it on my 336XL .30-30. Take a look at them, they're backed by Leupold and you're supporting the Oregons

Re: Leupold scope recommendations

Tony,
It's a Marlin 1895 45-70 GBL "Guide Big Loop" The one I have was a special run with a Black/Gray stock they called it an ABL.The GBL's have brown/black wood.
They make them in stainless also....SBL
It's basically a guide gun with a bigger loop for when you have gloves on and a longer magazine tube.
I'll tell you that thing shoots!!This was the day I put the Leopold on.
