What magnification scope should I get?

I'm in the market for a new scope and I decided to get the Leupold VX-3. The only problem is that I don't know which magnification to get. I was going to go with the 3.5-10x40 but somebody told me I should look at the 4.5-14x40. It will be on a Remington 700 Buckmasters edition 30-06. What do yinz think?

how far would you possibly be shooting? I think either way I'd go with the 4.5-14.

Depends on the terrain you'll encounter most.

Re: What magnification scope should I get?

I have about twenty Leupold 3 x 9 scopes and after 40 years I can say they stay on 5X 99% of the time.

I have the 3.5 x 10 x 40 on my .300 mag. Usually have it on 4 power but like the extra magnification if needed.

2.5-8, if you must have a variable, or 6x36 or 6x42....

Re: What magnification scope should I get?

Thanks guys. I'm just going to get the 3.5-10x40. I don't think I'll need anymore than that.

Re: What magnification scope should I get?

Final questions.

1. Should I get a 3.5-10x40 or a 4.5-14x40?

2. Should I get the CDS?
