Muphere .. pronounced mup-er

It’s what Erie, PA locals call visitors from Pittsburgh.

I never understood it until one morning I was fishing Elk creek at the head of cascade falls and had a guy come below me. He was close enough to chat so we started talking and he asked “where you from?” I replied just down the road in Mill creek. He said:

“I’m up here from Pittsburgh”

Classic Muphere. Google it.

Over the years, I learned that all I had to do was start the conversation and without even asking a muphere would eventually say it. I’m up here from Pittsburgh. Incredible.
