Re: Ruger American

My Uncle won a .30/06 in a raffle. I was surprised how nice it was and how well it shot. Pretty good rifle for the price.

I don't have ducks. I don't have rows. I have squirrels. And they're drunk.

Re: Ruger American

I donít own one I believe its Rugers version of the entry-level guns that have hit the market the last few years. I have read a couple articles in the gun rags and some post on the forums. Most everything I have read has been positive.

Over the years I have owned and still do own several Ruger Handguns and rifles and have yet to get a bad one.

You will most likely get a list of scope options. I will throw my hat in the ring early. I started buying Nikon scopes a few years back. For the price I would say they are pretty hard to beat.

Good luck with the new rifle and whatever you deiced on a scope. And welcome to the forum.

I second the Nikon scopes. I have heard good things about those americans too. look back through the forums here because I know there have been some threads on this topic already.

I bought a Ruger American Compact in December. It is also a 7mm-08.

I really like it. The safe is where I like it, the trigger is good, the magazine works very well, it is light, and it is very accurate. I could not be more pleased, especially with the price.

I hope yours shoots as well as mine. I am planning on buying another when the new stainless model is out. It is listed on their website now.

Also, would love to see them offer it in .300 mag. Would make a great elk rifle.

Re: Ruger American

I was looking at the compact, but I thought that it had a very short length of pull like 12 3/4 " or so? The one I have has a little to long length of pull 13 3/4"

Re: Ruger American

It is a short length of pull, but that doesn't bother me. I am tall, do not mind it at all.

Re: Ruger American

I've heard good things about their accuracy. For the price I wouldn't mind trying one out. I've looked at a few and on a couple the barrel wasn't centered very well in the stock. Nothing that couldn't be corrected though.

Re: Ruger American

I shot one in June at the Sportsmans shop in New Holland range day. It shot great and had a decent trigger. It is on my list of rifles I want to buy. I want one in 270 since I already have 2 308 and 2 3006 rifles. I hope to get one this summer.
