Remington 700 Problems

I was watching a program this morning and it was a special about the Remington 700 Rifle going off at times.Naturally Remington denied it but further investigation revealed otherwise. They are not saying all 700's were bad but they figure there is about 50,000 out there with problems.A matter of fact they interviewed Mike Walker who is 98 years old and he said that he told Remington about the problem back in 1946.At that time it would have cost 6 cents per rifle to fix the trigger but refused.Today it would be between $75-100.per rifle.I remember a friend of ours back in the mid 70's.We had stopped hunting for lunch on the first day of deer and we were all unloading when all of a sudden his 700 went off.We started yelling at him to keep his finger off the trigger but I remember he swore that it was no where near it.Never thought anything more about it since a few yrs ago when I first got wind of a problem with them.Today really sealed my thinking and I know I will never buy a Rem. 700 in the future. They also reported that the new Rem.770 has the same trigger and safety. The only reason I posted this is not to bash Remington but to let owners know to beware of a "possible"problem. As with any firearm always point that barrel in a safe direction.Thank You for reading and BE SAFE.

Re: Remington 700 Problems

The sticky at the top of the main page does a pretty good job, but thanks for your concern.
