Re: Best Cleaning Kit For AR???

If your talking about a field cleaning kit, I can't tell you which one is the best, but I have one made by Otis that's pretty good. Very complete. If your talking about cleaning at home, there's only a few things you'll probably want that you may not already have. There are some AR specific cleaning brush kits that come with a brushes for the chamber and locking lug area that are handy. It's also nice to have a vice block that fits into the mag well while you work on the lower, and blocks to clamp the upper in a vice (by the Pic rail) while you clean the upper. These are handy, but not a necessity at all. They also make a little scraper gadget to scrape the carbon from the bolt tail. Again- nice, but not necessary.

Its kind of a big deal.

Thank you Papsattic. I guess nobody else bothers to clean their AR. Probably going to get that Otis AR kit. Just wanted to know if its worth the money.

Re: Best Cleaning Kit For AR???

Lol. No problem. Actually a lot of people probably over clean their AR's. They'll run a long time between detailed cleanings as long as you keep them well lubed. I like to run mine "wet".
After a couple range sessions I'll run a patch and some clp through the bore and re-lube everything good. Nothing else is really necessary untill you get into the thousands of rounds.
I lube my AR almost the same as I do my Garand. For the most part, if it rolls- oil it, and if it slides- grease it.

I mostly shoot at Elstonville sc. I'm planning on joining Palmyra sc soon. I've never been to LCPCPC. Honestly, I thought it was only for law enforcement.

Thanks TEE, I will look into the 2000 carbon cleaner. Pap, its open to the public membership. The only problem, if the range is reserved. Then you cant shoot, they have everything on their web site. Including a calendar that shows the reserve dates. Being that your in Lebanon County, I wasn't sure how close you were.
