Less critical in the big, shorter range calibers, but still worth being aware of.

Re: Ruger number one

The only one I see is that you have a dangerous game rifle caliber with only one shot.

Certainly wouldn't be my choice for lions.

The deer didn't disappear.... the 250,000 guys who used to walk around and make the deer move did.

Re: Ruger number one

I have a Ruger #1 in 375 H&H, and if I had the choice between the two cartridges I would buy the H&H again. For no other reason then the Ruger #1 is a classic rifle and the 375 H&H is a classic cartridge. I also think that the H&H will still be around after the 375 Ruger has long been discountinued. With that said; the 375 Ruger will give you 100+ fps more velocity over the H&H, has a shorter OAL, and does not have a belted case. Which IMO the latter two mean nothing, especially in a Ruger #1.

Alot also depends on what the gun will be used for. Like another post mentioned, it wouldnt be my first choice for a brown bear or other dangerous game hunt. If its going to be a Pa. bear or deer gun there is nothing wrong with a Ruger #1 in eigther caliber. I have taken my 375 H&H a few times for whitetail but never had a chance to shoot one with it. I load a Speer 235gr at around 2800fps for deer.

Good luck, Tony
