Savage 99-What's it worth?

Looking for some advice and thoughts-I saw a 99EG at a gunshop. It's serial number is in the 750,000 range-pre-mil. It has decent wood with a solid finish, no gouges or scrapes, just some light scratches. The bluing is worn, but no rust or pits on the metal.

It is chambered for .300 Savage, and has a 2-7 Leupold Vari-X II scope on it that I'm guessing is about 30-40 years old.

The asking price is $799-I think that is high, but I want to make a fair offer-what do you think?

Thanks,

Will

That's full retail for the package. The scope is very good but not new. $700 would be more like it for the pair. I would ask him to sell me the gun for $500, MHO.

I see that gun, early 1950's model in good used shape for $450-$500 on a regular basis. Joe's right on the money.

Alrighty then!

That is just what my thought was-$500-550 for the gun, and $700 for the package deal. Maybe I'll stop by later in the week and see if we can talk.

Re: Savage 99-What's it worth?

if the rifle is in the 750,000 serial and is tapped for a scope, which it must be, it is aftermarket tapped and is not even worth 500, I have owned 60+ 99's/1899's and that 300 savage eg was the most produced rifle in the 99 line, by a long shot......having been tapped and with blue wear it is a hunter only with zero collector quality and should be able to be purchased for the $400 mark give or take. The leupold vari-x is now 3 models old and can be bought consistently for $140-160 bucks, I would not pay more than 550-575 for the combo, and that is what you would get back out of it in the event you ever wanted to part with it. jmo, lenny
