I am planning on re-barreling one of my Mausers as I think 3 .35 Whelens is a little more than I need. I really think I "need" something in the 6.5 caliber. I reload, so that makes some of the facotry ammo issues a non factor. Anyone else shotting any 6.5's? Just looking for real world experience. Obviously the Mauser is a long action, so not much to gain by going with any of the short 6.5's I'm assuming.
With a standard long action I would go with the 6.5 ackley improved. You can easily for the brass out of the .280 ackley improved brass. You get super velocity out of it, and you can shoot some long bullets out of it. I'm going to commission a 6.5x47 lapua here in a month or so. I am a fan of the 6.5, a ballistically awesome caliber.
I have one buddy with a Lapua, and another who built a Grendel. Both are scarey accurate. They both took deer with them this year, awesome performance. One is shooting Bergers (Lapua), the other Noslers.
