S&W M&P 15-22 or Ruger SR22?

Ive been looking at getting one of these. Any thought on ether one? I hear the Colt M4 .22 has some bad features. I thought the Ruger would be the way to go based on the famous 10/22, but most of what I read so far points me to the S&W....so I figured I get a final review here!

I have CDO, its like OCD but the letters are in alphabetical order the way they should be.

i have one. no issues whatsoever. easy to clean and accurate. i have a leupold 2.75x scout scope on it and it will make 50 cent peice size holes in anything as fast as you can pull the trigger and dime sized if you take your time. be warned though, buy lots of ammo. the cheaper the better. my boys have put about 10k rounds through mine since last christmas. fyi, its hard on backboards too. my backyard range looks like an A10 strafed it.

S&W 15-22 is similar to an ar15 but lighter. I prefer the plain old 10/22 for its reliability over the years.

I have the S&W and would recomend it over the Mossburg or any other low end 22 autos. For Xmas my son is getting a plain 10-22, an ArchAngel 5.56 stock, sling, redot, high cap mags, ect.. so he can assemble his own "modern 22" .

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 or Ruger SR22?

Nothing at all wrong with a Colt. I have one. Superb shooter.

The only thing I like better about the S&W is that they can be cleaned easier, but guess what? An old tooth brush and some Hoppes and that chamber area is clean, which is the important part. Let the crud build up too thick and you get light strikes on the cartridge rims and failure to fire.

I think I went through a 325rd box, and almost through a 500 round box before it started giving light strikes. I toothbrushed the chamber, made it clean again (lots of fouling/powder residue) and it was running like a champ.

I would NOT hesitate to get a Colt. All the crap I read on the net about the problems with them is, at least in my experience with mine, just that....crap.

I have run a 325rd pack an 2 500 round packs through mine, plus assorted other rounds as I had them, and I'm half-way through the 3rd 500-round pack. Lead solids, copper plated, high velocity, standard velocity....all ran FINE. I haven't tried hollowpoints, but I wouldn't be shocked if they ran fine, too.

Re: S&W M&P 15-22 or Ruger SR22?

my boys went through an entire 525 pack of federal champions in one afternoon at my house a couple weeks ago with the s&w with no FTF or otherwise. and they were running 25 rounds mags as fast as they could fire at times. the gun was cruddy but the bolt carrier group comes out real easy and the crud seemed to be contained within the chamber and carrier group pretty well. a little hoppes, a toothbrush and 5 min and it was squeaky clean. can't speak for the other brands but the s&w m&p15-22 is a awesome little gun. it eats anything and poops out brass and lead like a gatling gun.
