Best Air Rifle?

Want to purchase a good quality air rifle for a bud to use at his cabin in upstate NY. (I'm looking on behalf of his wife for Xmas). Something strong and accurate enough for squirrels or crows, as well as for general plinking. Any recommendations in the $200 range?

Re: Best Air Rifle?

I have a Gamo Shadow Sport, very accurate, shot a few crows with it. Most of the Gamo's are in the $175-225 range.

Spend the extra money and get a RWS Diana 350.
Cabela's bargain cave is always full of returned Gamos. Their scopes don't hold zero, the mounts are garbage.

Re: Best Air Rifle?

I picked up a "junk" Gamo Big Cat from the Bargain cave for a whopping 89 bucks 3 years ago. For the money I couldn't resist sending it out to have it tuned up. Now with a honed, compression chamber, stainless spring, upgraded seals and a CDT trigger set at around 1 pound, it'll out shoot ANY factory RWS rifle for about half the cost and consistent?...chrono's an avg. 920 pfs with 8.9 gr Crossman Premiers with a spread of around 3 fps... total caost was right about $260.00 Gamo scopes trully ARE JUNK and about ANY aftermarket upgrade will be an improvement. I monted a CP mil dot 3-9 and my little "junk" project springer will shoot inside of a nickle at 40 yards with the right pellets. Weird thing is, it especially likes the 10.0 grain Crossman heavy, domed pellets. Took it to a friend's farm out of state 2 years back and there wasn't a woodchuck or ground squirell inside of 40 yards that was safe. A 10 grain pellet in the earhole equates to instant death...
