New Winchester Rimfire Round

Winchester is going to announce a new "worlds fastest" rimfire cartridge in early 2013. Any guesses on what it might be? Might be good for varmints, but will probably blow up small game like a .17hmr

Not only is my short-term memory horrible, but so is my short-term memory.

I can,t imagine what they could come out with in a rimfire that could out smoke a .17HMR.

They came out with it over 40 years ago. They just never put a 25 gr. bullet in the 5mm Rem Mag.

Yup! Hottest rimfire ever made. But this is the first I've heard Winchester doing this. Gotta hit google and see if theres anything on it.

All I found was an Outdoor Life Blog. Bet it's .17 or .20 cal.

Re: New Winchester Rimfire Round

I think the round in question is the 17 Hornet...20grain leaving the barrel at 3500fps. Savage is offering a few rifles in this cal.

Nope.

.17 Hornet is a centerfire.
