25-06 weatherby help

I bought a new weatherby vangaurd 25-06 and mounted a new bushnell ultra hd 3x9x50 scopeon it. I bought 2 new boxes of fusion 120 gr. My problem is I can't get groups under 5-6 inches at 100 yards. I never tried the fusions yet, I may try remingtons next, The scope is tight, shooting from benchrest, I'm at a loss.
It has the synthetic stock on it.

Re: 25-06 weatherby help

I had a Ruger Model 77 in 270 once that did that..Even after extensive load development the best it would do is 3" groups...I'll be surprised if you ever make a tackdriver out of it..5" to 6" tells me that something is very wrong with that rifle!

Check your stock screws . Front one first then the triger guard screws .

Re: 25-06 weatherby help

Did you clean it good before shooting it? They are shipped with oil/rust preventative in them. Make sure its clean.

You might want to try a lighter bullet. I believe that your gun has a 1:10 twist. You might have problems stabilizing the 120gr bullets in it. Two of my 25 calibers have the 1:10 twist and neigther one likes the heavier bullets. I would try a 100gr bullet.

Good luck, Tony

Not being sarcastic, but make sure your scope and mounts
are on good and tight.

If everything is tight - have someone else shoot it and see if they group any different. you may be pulling the trigger with out realizing it instead of squeezing it.
Have also heard if them screw holding the stock on is too tight it can cause irregular shot placement. back it off and snug it back up. Good luck and let us know what you find. I'd also consider removing scope and remounting it being sure to snug screws evenly.

Life's too short to hunt with an ugly dog!
If it's locked up and put away - Your NOT safe!

Re: 25-06 weatherby help

check to see if the barrel is touching the stock. if it is this can cause the rifle to shoot off. is it shooting all over the target or is it grouping to the left or right of center? if its throwing shots all over the target it could be your scope. also try shooting 100 grain bullets or lighter to see if that helps. good luck.

Re: 25-06 weatherby help

I have the same rifle. It shoots 100gr Ballistic tips great. Started with Federals to get it sighted in and to get my first batch of brass. I have since added a Timney trigger with a 3 position safety and a Boyd's thumbhole stock. I really like that rifle. I think you should try lighter bullets before you get too discouraged.

I think that 100 grain bullets kill faster in the 25 calibers anyway...just my experience

Re: 25-06 weatherby help

I dont reload but My 25-06 doesn't shoot the 115-117- 120's nearly as we'll as 100's
Corelocs shoot best vs. "premium rounds"
Luckily nothing I've shot w/ this combo has complained ....
