gun safe shopping

i have done some searching on this site for similar threads and have come up with that the garage would be a better place for a gun safe than a basment. i was thinking that even if it is bolted to the ground you would be able to use a vehicle to rip it out to steal it.

Anyways. i want to get a good fire proof safe soon, probalby take advantage of holiday sales.
What brands, type, size, features should i be looking for.

Thanks.

I'm interested in this too, I'm in the market for a safe as well.

I've seen then priced the least after the holiday's. Right now, they are an impulse buy.

Do not forget to get a heating element/rod to keep the safe a constant temperature.

Re: gun safe shopping

my gun safe has been in the celler for 25 years, and the house is three fold older. a safe is nothing but a deterrent.

Re: gun safe shopping

Dicks has their "Field and Stream" 32gun model on sale now. Normally $799, marked down to $699 and there's a coupon for another $100 off. Wifey bought me one for a Christmas present and it's actually pretty nice. Rated for 1400 degrees for 30 minutes. Not a bad safe for $599. IMO

Alrighty then!

Re: gun safe shopping

I have a Champion CH 35 that I purchased about 8 years ago. Great bang for the buck and I'm impressed with the safe with one exception--it seems to shrink each year.

Great deals can be had at the outdoor show in Harrisburg which is where I will likely upsize.

My wife wants to get me one and that is the one we have been looking at. Going to check it out tomorrow.

Any pros and cons with it?

2F for a while...

Re: gun safe shopping

I like the style, the dial lock with the spoked wheel type handle. It's rated for 32 guns +6 pistols on the door, you can pretty much take 10 off that number if you're putting scoped guns in it, but I think that holds true with all safes. Oh yea, it's wicked heavy...

Alrighty then!
