How to remove leaf sight from Rem 760??

Hi Guys,

I installed a new scope on my Rem 760 and would like to know how to remove the leaf sight so that I can put a scope cover on it.

Haven't been able to figure out how to remove the leaf sight. I don't see any markings on it either.

Does anyone recognize this and can you help me figure out how to remove it?

Thanks!

Thanks, groat. Yes, you can fold it down, but it still doesn't provide enough clearance to get scope cover on.

When you say "tap it out" -- I assume you mean from the side? Any idea which way to tap?

OK you tap it from the right to the left, put the rifle wrapped in a towel in a vice and it will take some effort to remove it, save the sight hope this helps Use a flat end punch and hammer you can buy a dove tail filler to fill it in or if you do not want to go through this trouble just buy a higher scope rings should help this is a fine old rifle

It worked -- thanks for the help!

I've never seen the dovetailed barrel slot that the sight fit into, did this come standard on 760's or was this somehow added after market?

The older 760's had dovetailed rear sights.
