Hornady Flex Tips

I was wondering how the Hornady Flex Tips work for deer and which to go with 140 or 160 for a Marlin 336 in 30-30? THANK YOU.

Re: Hornady Flex Tips

I picked up a box of .357's for reloading(158 gr.). I figured it was just a ballistic tip version of the XTP with a better b.c.. I couldn't get them to group at all with my standard xtp load out of my 6" GP100...But then again every gun is a different law within itself.

My dad had the same experience with his Wichester 44 mag.

You'll probably have to just try them.

Re: Hornady Flex Tips

I use them in my .35 remington and they work well. I can cut holes a 100 yards. As most hunting for deer is close range work, less than 100 yards, I prefer to use heavier bullets. You will have to see what your gun likes best.

Re: Hornady Flex Tips

The flex tips seam to shoot very well in all my lever guns, but they dont always open up in a deer. Last year My dad shot a deer with my .450 marlin at 100 yards, and it ran away. He thought he had missed it by the way it ran, but it turns out he made a great shot and the bullet never expanded. Small hole in, small hole out. Deer ran 200 yards. So,, they shoot well, but dont always expand well.
